Octavia E. Butler (1947-2006)

I am so sorry to report to you that beloved author Octavia E. Butler has died. She died after falling and striking her head on a walkway outside her home. I'm not very good at this sort of thing. I don't know what to say after someone passes on, but I have to say something about Ms. Butler. She was so important to me. Her writing was not just about possible futures, they were about possible futures that included me and people who looked like me. She saw the world so clearly that it frightened you and chilled your blood, but you had to read on. ... [ more ]
